Controlaula

New ControlAula 1.3 release. After several months testing it in some school, it’s ready to work without known problems. New features list is long, from look to the new documentation or being able to work in thin clients. To know better every detail you should visit the available documentation.

About ControlAula

Application to allow a teacher to control a classroom. Currently translated to Italian, French, Spanish, English, Portuguese (Brazilian), and Turkish.

This application allows the teacher to control a classroom from their desktop, even from the GNOME panel.

ControlAula

The teacher can automagically:

  • See and control what students are doing
  • Lock and unlock internet access
  • Launch web browser in students’ desktops with a desired URL
  • Launch any application to the students by dragging and dropping from the GNOME menu
  • Send files to the students
  • Send messages to the students
  • Share/unshare teacher printer
  • Transmit video and audio via broadcasting
  • Make the students see only the teacher’s desktop

All these actions can be taken individually, to some selected students, or to every student desktop.

There are also several options to disallow the students the use of their computer if the teacher is not in the classroom, or doesn’t want them to use it.

It is made using Gambas.
It is already available in English, Italian, French, Turkish, and Spanish.

Requirements

This application requires GTK+ version 2.8.x. Other dependencies include:
gambas2-gb-gtk, videolan, rfb, wakeonlan

Some new features

  • VLC transmits now for different ports depending on the teacher UID, so multiple transmissions are allowed in the same network. Thanks to Ángel Martínez Giles
  • sirvecole now allows connections from a PC different from the teacher PC if ipAdmin is set in /etc/sirvecole
  • sirvecole will halt the student PC after two minutes without the monitorprofe application contacts if MonitorNecesario is set to 1 in /etc/sirvecole
  • Enable paused printers when restarting monitorprofe & sirvecole
  • Reverted previous use of VLC as DVD with menus cannot be broadcasted
  • Francisco Paniagua improvements:
    • The teacher can reconnect a single student to the video transmission.
    • Added a config file (/var/monitorprofe/monitorprofe.cfg) to share some settings by all the teachers that use the same PC.
